For more than a decade, I've shared Walter Brueggemann's basic framework about the Liturgy of Abundance - Myth of Scarcity.
After sharing it with a class yesterday, I read today in National Geographic (November 2014) the following statistics:
There is enough - the world is blessed and abundantly fruitful.
If only we'll discern patterns of life in social, economic and politically distributive ways to insure the resources can be shared.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 21% of food at the consumer level went uneaten. Fully 1/5 of all "edible food, postharvest, that is available for human consumption but is not consumed" was not eaten! Wow!
In addition, "According to the World Food Programme, just 25 cents is all it costs to provide a child with a nutritious school meal and extra food to take home."
There is enough - the world is blessed and abundantly fruitful.
If only we'll discern patterns of life in social, economic and politically distributive ways to insure the resources can be shared.
