That He is Risen Demands More From Us

In celebration that 'Christ is Risen, Risen Indeed,' I am reminded that we who proclaim this must discern that our life's personal & community existence should reflect & embody the character & quality of discipleship life that participates in the life of Jesus.

More blessing,
more love,
more justice,
more grace,
more humility,
more service,
more selflessness,
more peacemaking,
more self-emptying

 - with others

 - for the sake of the world.

Projecting, planning, working - it's in my DNA

I say I'm going to slow-down.

I don't.

I just shared with me wife that today I did all of the following today:

  • Communicated with a colleague about the possibility of 1 or 2 shared book projects for he and I to write.
  • Collaborated with three colleagues on our grant proposal in progress.
  • Taught two sections of Hebrew, instead of my scheduled one, because I've got one student who is so bright and far-advanced, she deserves her own time slot to keep moving.
  • After days of planning to get the right tools, worked with our youngest daughter on a pallet deconstruction and salvaged wood project.
  • With our other daughter, painted two of the four walls in her room - the kilz base-coat - so more work to happen soon.  (Also taught her painter tricks on how to not spill, reuse brushes, clean and dry brushes, and a few other tricks of the trade.)
  • Collaborated with another colleague and 2 potential artists to draft sketches of 10 archealogical finds for his School's publishing project.
  • Contacted a pastor in the Northwest about some future work I hope to connect on
  • Made dinner for our family. (Started the crock-pot at before 8:00 a.m - and had dinner on the table when my lovely Bride finished a few things in her busy day).
  •  Graded 12 exegetical papers.
  • Advised and enrolled two students.
And, it's a bit past midnight and I'm tired.

Get Things Done GTD

I share GTD principles on a regular basis with lots of people.

Again today I shared the ideas when someone complimented me on my ability to get things done.

I share this particularly for him - and I've blogged here about these ideas in the past.

The Five Simple Steps on how to Get Things Done.

(1) Capture – collect what has your attention,
(2) Clarify – process what it means,
(3) Organize – put it where it belongs,
(4) Reflect – review frequently, and
(5) Engage – simply do.

Also, this - from this site:

Next-action verbs

Call Organize Review
Buy Fill out Find
Purge Look into (Web) Gather
Print Take Waiting for
Load Draft Email

Get the distinction? Most all of those big verbs can and should be uncorked to reveal that they contain nothing but dozens of smaller verbs. And those little fellas are your physical next actions. That's your work
.

I really wish I'd had these tables taped over my desk three years ago when I started doing GTD, because -- geeky as it sounds -- they're a kind of rosetta stone for ensuring that you correctly translate your stuff into either tasks or containers for tasks.
